Meet Tommie Harris, Camp ASCCA Adventure Staffer

Each day this week, I will be focusing on one individual from our program staff that is a part of our adventure staff here at Camp ASCCA. Today, I will tell you a little about Tommie Harris.

Tommie is from Hamilton, Alabama, and he is no stranger to Camp ASCCA. Tommie is working his fourth summer, and since he started working here four summers ago, he has done a lot. For the first two years, Tommie was a camp counselor, and for the third year he was a unit leader. This summer, Tommie joined our program staff team and is working on adventure staff. When I asked Tommie why he wanted to do adventure staff, he said, “I wanted to get a new perspective of camp, both figuratively, and literally.” Adventure staff has a lot to offer here at Camp such as the trampoline, the new LPR zipline, and so much more. Out of all the things the adventure staff has to offer, Tommie’s favorite is the Zip Tower. When I asked him why, he said, “because there is multiple ways to challenge yourself on the zip tower, and once you complete it, there is a smooth ride down.”

Tommie recently graduated from the University of West Alabama in May, with a degree in Collaborative Special Education, kindergarten through twelfth grade. While his time at West Alabama was spent focusing on his career, he still had time to be a college athlete playing football for his school. After Camp ends this summer, Tommie will start his career as a special education teacher. Everyone that comes to Camp ASCCA has their favorite part of Camp. After three summers of working here, Tommie has a lot of favorites but his absolute favorite is “watching the kids overcome their fears at Camp, especially when it comes to the Zip Tower or the zipline.” We can not thank Tommie enough for all the hard work that he has done over the past three summers. It is people like Tommie that makes Camp ASCCA an awesome place to be.
