Montgomery Academy Visits Camp ASCCA

This week we had a visit from 10 Montgomery Academy students. The students, who are upcoming seniors, are enrolled in Philanthropy 101 this summer. For three weeks, they will learn about different non-profits in the community and charitable giving.

The class is funded by the W. James Samford, Jr. Foundation which believes in helping others in need. The students will visit and/or hear presentations from each organization and actually spend a day “giving back” to a charity as well. On Wednesday this week, Camp ASCCA’s Matt Rickman spoke to the group about Camp ASCCA and gave them a tour of the facilities. Matt noted “we had several students from Montgomery Academy donate to Camp ASCCA last summer and I’m always amazed at the generosity that participants of this program show.”

Donate they do. Each student is given a stipend from the W. James Samford, Jr. Foundation which in turn they choose to give to a charity of their choice.

Camp ASCCA has been honored to participate in this program for many years, receiving funds from students at Montgomery Academy, Montgomery and Lee-Scott Academy, Opelika.
