Check out this new website – Abilities of the Arts, or AbilitySota! It’s co-founded by Camp ASCCA camper alum Shanae Heard, and even has articles written by other campers! Check out Jonathan VanSteenburg’s “Scuba Diving Anyone?”
Abilities of the Arts (AbilitySota) is an organization working to give a voice to the disabled adult community. Using a website dedicated to covering fashion, sports, arts, entertainment and activism within the disabled adult community bringing unsung voices to the masses.
Artists within this specific community will be encouraged to submit content (articles, video, music, etc.) to the site. The published content will provide more awareness and insight to an often overlooked segment of society. The AbilitySota website is a genesis of much more to come.
About the Co-Founders:
Timotheus Gordon was born in Chicago IL. His love for writing became stronger when he found a love for poems in the 3rd grade. Writing became his outlet as he began to cope with being an Autistic male. His writing focuses on social justice, sports and the ins and outs of Autism. Gordon, now a SCAD-Atlanta MFA student enjoys sports, spoken word, freelance writing and helping others. He hopes that AbilitySota will provide a different perspective of those who have disabilities and share his appreciation of the arts.
Shanae Heard was born in Auburn AL. Her love for writing became a passion in middle school. Writing was her way of coping with Cerebral Palsy. She challenges readers’ thoughts on disabilities through her blog, “the Joystick Journey.” A student at Southern Union State Community College (Opelika, AL), she chronicles her daily life, struggles and triumphs as a student-writer. She enjoys football, baseball and helping others. She hopes that AbilitySota would be an outlet for misrepresented artists to express themselves through the arts.
