We are thrilled to announce the return of a beloved member of our Camp ASCCA family, Nurse Jaco! His journey with us spans many years and is filled with dedication, care, and a deep love for our camp community. Nurse Jaco started his journey at Camp as a counselor in 1988. His passion for helping others and his natural ability to connect with those around him, quickly made him a favorite among campers and staff. In 1989, he worked as program staff, and by 1990 he had taken the role of unit leader. His commitment and love for Camp led him back as a head counselor in 1995!
After working a few weeks and weekends here and there, Jaco returned as a summer nurse in 2013. His dedication didn’t stop there; he helped the former Director of Health when she was pregnant with her triplets in 2018 before he took on the full time role of Director of Health. After covid, Jaco continued to work weeks and weekends through the years, until returning full time this summer. ASCCA has been a special place to him for a long time, so when asked to come back, he couldn’t resist! Nurse Jaco recently retired from The Arc of North Alabama, he and his wife now live in Kentucky. Originally, he was planning to stay only two weeks, but we were thrilled when he decided to extend his visit and stay with us for the rest of the summer. His presence has been a blessing, and we have enjoyed every moment with him. Having Nurse Jaco around has not only been comforting and helpful, but also inspiring. His dedication and heart to help others and to Camp is commendable.
For Nurse Jaco, Camp ASCCA is more than just a place, it is a community that feels like home. He is excited to once again be a part of the incredible experience and growth that happens here every summer. Nurse Jaco’s history and return is yet another testament to the lasting impact ASCCA has on everyone who becomes a part of it. We are grateful to have him back and look forward to the positive influence he will continue to have on our camp community.
