Session 6
It’s a bird, it’s a plane! No….it’s really a bird! This morning, our campers gathered at the ball field to watch as various kinds of hawks were set free. Campers watched and listened as each bird was described by the handlers. Then, they helped count down as the handler threw the bird in the sky and watched it fly into the Camp ASCCA woods. After each bird was released, the campers had the opportunity to get closer to the animals and take pictures with them.
The birds and their awesome handlers came to us from the Southeastern Raptor Center. This organization based in Auburn, Alabama focuses on the rehabilitation and eventual release of injured or sick prey birds. They also strive to educate people about birds of prey and their habitats.
