Yesterday evening, campers got to spend some time out on the water. As a free choice program, they were able to go canoeing. Campers were helped into their boats and each given a paddle. They rowed their canoes around the lake, staying within the borders set by our life guards.
Not only did this keep everyone on the water safe, but it also encouraged campers and counselors to stick together. They practiced working with each other instead of against to be one cohesive unit in the canoe. For those who could not row, someone was always there willing to do a little more to make it possible for those who couldn’t. A cool attachment was added to some boats, when necessary, to stabilize the canoe and maintain steadiness.

Canoeing gave campers a peaceful place to relax after a long day at Camp. Their laughter bounced off the water and could be heard on shore. They were playful and fun, making their time on the water fly by quicker than any camper wanted. You know they are having a good time when they insist on a few more minutes of the activity.
The sweetest moment happened when everyone was out on the lake in their canoes. We heard shouts of excitement, chuckles of laughter and could feel the happiness of campers from afar. It was tranquil. At ASCCA, campers have a unique experience that provides a nurturing environment where campers and counselors alike can be their true selves with no limitations.
