For one of tonight’s Evening Activities, campers from Moundville, Chickasaw, Crow, Choctaw and Davis Cabins participated in our first Science Fair of the summer! Campers were split into teams according to their cabins and were responsible for assembling and decorating their own Marshmallow Catapults!
These Marshmallow Catapults were put together using empty Kleenex boxes, pencils, rubber bands, plastic spoons and more. Using a sheet of paper with printed directions as a guideline, campers constructed their Marshmallow Catapults with the help of counselors if needed. Every camper was able to contribute to the decoration and assembly of the catapults in one way or another!
Once the Marshmallow Catapults were complete, it was time for a little friendly competition. Facilitated by Outdoor Education Director Cody Graham and members of the Program Staff, the first round of competition was to see which cabin’s Marshmallow Catapult could shoot their mini marshmallow the farthest. Campers cheered each other on no matter how far people’s marshmallows went. They were just enjoying being amongst new and old friends! In between competitions there were a few dance breaks,“Ice, Ice, Baby!” being the most memorable!
The next round of competition was to see how many marshmallows each cabin could shoot in a plastic bowl on the other end of the table in 30 seconds. The excitement on their faces whenever they got one in was priceless. This seemed to be the most exciting competition of them all.
Finally there was a sudden death between the Davis Girls cabin and Choctaw as they were competing to see who could be the first one to shoot three mini marshmallows in a plastic bowl. This time, other counselors joined in to help catch the marshmallows to increase their chances of winning. Needless to say it got a little intense, but it was all in good fun. The campers enjoyed themselves, and that’s all that matters.
That was a wrap for the first night of Session 2. Be sure to stay tuned for more Session 2 action on Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and right here on our website!
