Scrub-a-Dub-Dub in the Tub

It was bath time at demonstration farm this afternoon! During free choice today, program staff employees Briana and Isabel hosted baths for Lizzie the donkey and Skip the horse. The group was taken over to the demo farm on the people mover and then directed to sit on the picnic table and benches inside of the farm. The group was asked whether they wanted to help wash the donkey or the hourse. The group that wanted to bathe the donkey stayed with Briana at the farm and the group that wanted to bathe the horse walked up to the barn with Isabel.

Briana took her group out into an open area near the farm. With the help of counselor Aryn and camper Kiya, Briana was able to prepare a bucket of water, soap, and sponges and take Lizzie out to the group. Before the group began scrubbing Lizzie, camper Pierce rinsed her off with the water hose. The group all grabbed sponges and began bathing Lizzie. The campers mostly scrubbed the back and her sides and the counselors helped with the legs. Lizzie was then rinsed back off and led back to the other donkey and the goats.

Isabel showed her group to the barn as she went and got Skip from the pasture. She and her group also got a bucket of water prepared for Skip’s bath, grabbed a water hose, and brushes. The campers took turns rinsing skip, scrubbing him, brushing his mane, and feeding him. They were able to see Isabel stretch him out as well, something that most campers do not get to see.

The campers were pumped to have been able to help bathe the animals today! It was a great way to end the afternoon and lead into the dance. Check out our Flickr page for more pictures of the fun!
