Over the weekend, March 22-24, we kicked off our 2024 ASCCA season. We welcomed campers, families, staff, and volunteers for our annual ASCCA Spring Weekend (formerly Fun Fish.) We were greeted with lots of familiar faces and a few new ones as well!
Our staff arrived eager on Friday afternoon, had a meeting, and reviewed the weekend schedule before going to their cabins to wait for the arrival of their campers. Campers and families began arriving around 4 P.M. and soon, the weekend fun would commence!
Weekends at ASCCA always fly by, and we knew that our time together was limited, so we got right into activities after dinner on Friday. We kicked things off with a dance party in the basement of Lions Lodge with our very own DJ Tre! Our campers love to dance, and they’re some of the best dancers. This activity was a win for everyone. We had glow sticks to make things even better, and we danced the night away.
Saturday morning, we started the day bright and early. Everyone gathered around the flagpole to begin our morning routine. We raised the flag, said the pledge, told some jokes, said our quote for the day, and blessed the food. Our kitchen staff worked hard to prepare a delicious breakfast that would give us the energy to enjoy all the activities we had planned.
Despite the sunny forecast, the wind made for a chilly morning. We bundled up and continued with the day. Our campers and families had various activities to choose from like, the Big Swing, arts & crafts, pond fishing, and fishing with our volunteers on beautiful Lake Martin!
That morning went by in the blink of an eye, and before we knew it, it was time for lunch and a much-needed rest period. After resting, we met at the gym to begin our afternoon programs. Again, we had so many activities to choose from. We love to have lots of options that way everyone can do something that they enjoy. We offered archery, karaoke at the OutPost, and more fishing opportunities! Saturday night, we closed out the day together by hanging out at the BcK4T. Everyone played their favorite arcade games, bowling on the simulator, and dancing to upbeat music!
Sunday, before parting ways, we had a couple more programs to enjoy. Campers, families, and staff had the chance to go on one last boat ride, fish, paint at arts & crafts, play cornhole, hang in hammocks at the OutPost, or play in the game room.
This weekend was one of the best, and we have our campers, staff, families, and volunteers to thank for that! Any time spent at Camp ASCCA is time well spent.
To our volunteers who brought their boats, thank you! You gave your time and energy and took our campers on Lake Martin to fish. You made this weekend memorable for so many of our people. We could not do it without you, and we are grateful for your continued support over the years.
Though Spring Weekend may be over, that means we are one step closer to Summer 2024. We’ll see you soon, ASCCA friends.
