We had 53 kids, 6 staff members, and a number of parents from the St. James School, a private school in Montgomery, Ala., for their annual environmental science camp. St. James has been coming for a long time, and we look forward to this camp every year.
It was a great week overall. The weather was quite good with some rain here and there. In addition to the recreation and science-focused activities during the day, we had ball field games, a scavenger hunt, and a campfire complete with s’mores during the evenings. Wow the s’mores were popular!
The programs that were provided included the zip tower, canoeing, environmental education at the Dunn Center, forestry, group elements, fishing and the Living Streams program. Doug Darr, the Aquatic Education Coordinator for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, ran fishing with the students. Col. Dick Bronson from Lake Martin Lake Watch, along with several additional Lake Watch volunteers, ran the Living Streams program with the students.
