The Summer Staff for Camp ASCCA’s has finally arrived! Counselors, returning and new, have come to ASCCA for a week of training. All throughout the week they will not only learn how to handle any type of situation at camp, but they will also get to make new friends with their fellow staff members.
After a night of greetings and rest, the staff awoke the next day to begin their training. The staff were given courses on how to properly transfer a person from a wheelchair and how to hook a camper up to the zip-line. New counselors were able to absorb these new tactics while returning counselors freshened up on their previously acquired skills.
The one element that the staff came away with is that these activities, whether fun or difficult, gave people chances to interact with their peers. Whether instructing someone on how to transfer or a returning counselor sharing a story from last summer, there were plenty of ways for everyone to connect. No matter the case these counselors all shared one core emotion, their excitement to see their very first camper of the summer.
