Session 3
Tonight was the night that everyone was looking forward to all week: Prom night. After the pep rally, where each cabin came up with and performed a cabin cheer to for ASCCA Spirit Day, campers hurried to their cabins to get ready for the dance.
In that time, our dining hall was transformed into a fancy restaurant for the special night. Our director of food services, Enis, and his kitchen staff worked hard to make every camper, counselor, staff member, and visitor a special dinner of chicken cordon bleu, rice, green beans, and a roll. After dinner, with the help of many volunteers, the dining hall was again transformed into a dance hall, and Prom 2012 officially began.
Campers took to the dance floor and danced all through the evening to the music of a live band, Route 66. Towards the end of the dance, the moment that so many had waited for finally arrived: the crowning of the new prom king and queen. Last year’s prom king and queen, Jozef and Noel, crowned the new royalty.
First to be announced was our queen, Lori. Following her coronation, the winner of prom king was announced. The room exploded with applause when Chris’ name was called as the winner of prom king 2012. The couple had their royal dance to our camp theme song this year, “Home” by Phillip Phillips. Lori spun around and showed off her signature dance moves in her gorgeous blue ball gown as Chris grinned at the crowd.
At the end of the night, nobody wanted this amazing week to end. Tears were shed by campers and counselors alike and promises to see each other again soon abounded. As one of our counselors, Andy, so perfectly stated, “It’s not getting them on the first day that’s the hard part, it’s letting them go.”
