Some of my favorite summer memories as a child did not involve extravagant vacations or expensive toys. T
hey are of my dad pulling out a long sheet of plastic from the shop, a water hose and some liquid soap. Haha! Having a huge front yard that was mostly a hill made it perfect for a homemade waterslide! I would invite friends over and we would spend hours sliding down that waterslide!
Today, I was reminded of these summer memories as I watched our campers having the time of their lives on the waterslide here at camp. It’s amazing how the simple things are the things we remember the most. I have gone on some really awesome trips and have had great summer breaks filled with fun activities, yet sliding on a waterslide with my friends is my favorite. Our campers are making so many memories this week. They will have firsts and favorites… they will overcome fears and make new friends! These will be the memories they will remember forever!
Camp ASCCA is a magical place full of adventure and fun, but it isn’t because of the fancy equipment or beautiful Lake Martin that makes it so magical. It’s magical because Camp ASCCA is a place that we get to spend an entire week playing with our friends! Campers may not remember every detail of the waterslide, but they will never forget hearing their friends cheering them on as they flew down the waterslide creating the biggest splash as they came to a stop at the bottom of the hill and ya know what I will never forget that either.
