The Ability Experience 2024 at Camp ASCCA

Over the weekend, Camp ASCCA had the honor of hosting members of Pi Kappa Phi from Mississippi State University and LaGrange College, as part of The Ability Experience, formerly known as PUSH America. The Ability Experience is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people with disabilities across the country.

The organization’s first visit to Camp ASCCA dates back to the early to mid-90s, and they have returned almost every year since. Pi Kappa Phi brothers have contributed to a variety of projects around Camp, including building the fishing dock, the Ziptower, the game room, the zipline platform, and more.

This year, 13 Pi Kappa Phi members participated in several important projects at Camp. They worked on replacing the floating lakefront dock, removing old cement blocks and replacing them with pressure-treated lumber. At the pickleball courts, they created an accessible path and built an inclusive Gaga Ball area.

The Ability Experience provides a $5,000 grant to fund these impactful projects, and we are deeply grateful to the men of Pi Kappa Phi and The Ability Experience for their ongoing support of Camp ASCCA.

Thank you Pi Kappa Phi & Ability Experience!

Camp Director Matt Rickman shared his appreciation, saying, “It’s overwhelming. I could close my eyes, spin around, and point to something—and odds are, Pi Kapp members helped build it.”
