The ASCCA on the Road Baldwin County Tour

On Monday, January 23, the ASCCA on the Road team began a three-day long trip through Baldwin County visiting schools, organizations, and local basketball games to speak about Camp ASCCA. We had the opportunity to meet with students across the county between the ages of 6 and 19 to discuss how to attend camp and how to be a part of the summer staff.

At each school, we showcased a video titled, “Welcome to Camp ASCCA,” that showed the students all of the activities we offer at Camp ASCCA and who we serve. After the video, we spent time with each student individually helping them design their own Camp ASCCA t-shirts. We also provided information for the students to take home to their parents outlining what we offer at camp, how much it costs, and when they can get started.

On Monday, we visited Foley High School and Foley Elementary School to meet their students, and we even ran into a few students that attended camp last summer. On Tuesday, our schedule was packed with visits to Robertsdale High School, Fairhope High School, and a special visit to Saraland High School’s Tuesday night basketball game. The basketball game was a part of a much bigger night as the school’s Project Outreach program worked to raise awareness about autism through the event, Shooting 2 Change. At the basketball game, we met with students who could potentially work at camp this summer as counselors, program staff, or even counselors-in-training.

On our last day in Baldwin County, we visited Bay Minette Elementary School and also met with parents who were interested in learning more about camp. We capped off the trip by speaking to a few pre-therapeutic recreation classes at the University of South Alabama and shared with the students how their courses would be applied at camp and how they can get involved as volunteers.
