The People of Camp ASCCA: Jocelyn Jones

Camp ASCCA isn’t just a place; it’s the people who make it feel like home. In this series, we’re shining a spotlight on the staff, past and present, who dedicate their time, energy, and hearts to creating unforgettable experiences for our campers. From heartfelt stories to behind-the-scenes moments, get to know the faces, positions, and journeys that make ASCCA truly special.

Jocelyn Jones started at Camp ASCCA on April 17, 2007, as the secretary, and over the years, she has become an essential part of the behind-the-scenes magic that keeps Camp running smoothly. Her days are filled with reviewing camper applications, managing office supplies, answering phone and email inquiries, and supporting both campers and staff whenever they need help.

When asked what has kept her at Camp all these years, Jocelyn doesn’t hesitate. “The people and the mission. Seeing the joy that Camp brings to campers. I’m behind the scenes, but knowing I played a part is really rewarding.”

For Jocelyn, the best part of working at Camp ASCCA is being part of something bigger than herself. “Being part of the organization, the ability to make a difference. The smiles, laughter, and sense of belonging for the campers. There’s nothing like it.” One of her favorite memories is watching the campers arrive each session. The joy and anticipation she sees reminds her why Camp is so important. “It’s hard when they’re put on a waiting list because we know how badly they want to be here. But when they arrive, the overwhelming joy makes it all worth it.”

Camp ASCCA is not your typical 9-5 job. Jocelyn says, “The impact on lives, it is so much more than just completing your work. It is creating memories for campers. It is priceless.” She sees Camp ASCCA as a place where individuals can grow, gain confidence, and form lasting friendships.

Working at ASCCA has shaped Jocelyn’s life by teaching patience, compassion, and the value of community. Being around others and observing their strengths and abilities has shown her how important kindness and support really are. Relationships with others are really everything.

If Jocelyn had to sum up Camp ASCCA in one word, it would be inclusive. “Camp ASCCA creates a space where everyone belongs.” Her proudest moments come from seeing the continued growth of Camp and knowing she has contributed even a small part. After nearly 20 years with Camp, she appreciates the opportunities to keep learning and growing alongside the campers and staff.

Her advice?

“Embrace who you are, support one another, and never underestimate the difference you can make for others.”
