This past week Camp ASCCA hosted the Hall Foundation Camp. The therapeutic recreation participants from the Muscle Shoals, Dothan, and Montgomery Park and Recreation Departments came to Camp ASCCA and were here from Tuesday-Friday. Students from the University of North Alabama‘s therapeutic recreation classes arrived on Monday to serve as volunteer counselors and staff members for the week.
Campers arrived Tuesday afternoon and hit the ground running. After check-in, they got settled into their cabins and went straight to free-play in the gym and game room. After dinner, all of the campers had the opportunity to participate in a Camp ASCCA favorite, a talent show! We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, the most talented people are at Camp ASCCA.
Campers started early Wednesday morning with flag-raising, and we tried to beat the rain so we could participate in morning program rotations, but mother nature had other plans. We still made the most of the day with free-play in the gym, making bracelets, watching a movie, and buying all the Camp ASCCA t-shirts. After lunch we rested up and were able to make it to some afternoon programs! All of the campers got to go tubing, do the waterslide, and go for a relaxing boat ride! We ended the day outside with a pool party!
Thursday morning, we made our way to the BCK4T to stay dry from the rain. Campers played games, watched a movie, danced, and enjoyed slushies. After lunch the weather cleared up and allowed us to get outside again. Fishing and bingo were a huge hit. We ended Thursday night with a concert with Russel Craig. The campers danced the night away, and Russel put on a great show!
Friday morning came, and it was time to say our “see you laters” and part ways. Despite the rain it was such a fun week with new and familiar faces. We are excited to be reunited again with our friends!
