The Shepherd Center, from Atlanta, GA, will be spending their weekend here at ASCCA for their annual Adventure Skills Workshop. The Shepherd Center is a private, not-for-profit hospital specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury and brain injury. This weekend there will be approximately 185 people here, including staff, to enjoy the wonderful things our site has to offer. Our camp affords these campers a unique opportunity to participate in activities usually unavailable to them because of their wheelchair and paralysis.
The weekend begins today with registration and a quick swim test, both taking place this morning. Then the real fun begins as campers have the opportunity to participate in over 15 different activities, all adapted to each camper’s abilities. Activities range from scuba diving and water skiing to mini golf and zip line. The Workshop lasts through Sunday and we hope that everyone has a great time– we are thrilled to host this remarkable center for another year.
A special thank you to all of the volunteers from The University of South Alabama who are here for the weekend to assist however necessary.
Check back at the end of the weekend to find photos from the Workshop!
