Trussville Noon Rotary Club

Today, the Director of Marketing and Communications Dana Rickman and summer PR Intern Karla Silva traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, to speak at one of the Trussville Noon Rotary Club meetings. Mrs. Rickman was invited to come speak about Camp ASCCA by Mrs. Ann Layne. Mrs. Layne, her husband Ron, and others in this rotary club are longtime donors of Camp ASCCA.

Mrs. Rickman has spoken in front of this rotary club previously but it has been many years ago so she was invited this time to refresh the members on what Camp ASCCA is and what it strives to be in the future. She brought Karla along for her first time so she could be exposed to the “behind-the-scenes” of camp. She began her presentation by talking about Camp ASCCA’s mission, the type of people that the camp caters to, and the different types of activities that camp has to offer. She then showed the “Welcome to Camp ASCCA” video created by PR intern Clayton Smith last year. The video reiterated what she had just touched on but added details, visuals, and the opinions of parents, counselors, and campers.

Mrs. Rickman then took questions and introduced summer PR intern Karla Silva. Karla spoke about the differences in being a program staff member, counselor, or PR intern. Karla has previously been a counselor at a similar camp and was able to give details on how some of the differences in duties have affected her experiences at ASCCA. She emphasized on capturing the moments that counselors want to be reminded of and that parents want to see while their child is away at camp.

The entire audience came to the visitors’ table and introduced themselves to the Camp ASCCA staff. They were extremely welcoming and even gifted Mrs. Rickman and Karla each one of their rotary medallions. Mrs. Rickman and Karla were excited to be able to expose new people and remind others about what Camp ASCCA is truly about. Sending people to speak at these types of meetings tend to lead to donations and sponsorships for campers which is extremely beneficial for our campers that need financial assistance.
