My time here at Camp ASCCA truly has been memorable. I have laughed, cried and smiled throughout this entire experience. From the first day I stepped into Lions Lodge on that Sunday afternoon, I was so excited but terrified at the same time because I had no idea what to expect. Once I got moved in, I waved my parents goodbye, and I got acquainted with a few of the program staff that were there. The next day was Hope Heals. I met the rest of program staff and full time staff that morning, and I was so ready to start the day. I also met my fellow intern Jay and my supervisor Kasey Langley. After meeting them, I knew it was going to be an amazing summer because they were both so joyful about the starting week and the ones to follow.
I have learned so much from every counselor, staff, and camper that I have met. They taught me how to think outside the box and that there is a story in everything. Being a part of the PR Squad was probably the best experience of my life! It was sad because I felt like I didn’t get to share a relationship with the campers, but I got the different side of camp as the pictures made me feel connected. The pictures made me remember certain memories about any camper I took a photo of, and it was just like reliving a dream.
These last couple days were very emotional for me, and I never thought I would be this attached. However, this truly is a magical place. I woke up most days so excited to see the campers because the days would always fly past so we had to make the most of every day. This staff for my first year was an amazing staff, and I could never forget any of them. Before I came to Camp ASCCA, I was going through a crisis because I did not know what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I am going into my junior year of college with the same major but not a clue what I wanted to do with it. This place has made me realize how much I can do and how many people I can help with every picture I take!
