April is autism awareness month. The Autism Society of Alabama joins with the nation wide effort to raise funds for research and increase the public’s awareness of autism. Communities throughout the state hold events in effort to achieve these goals. According to the Walk for Autism Alabama website: The annual Walk for Autism and 5K race is the single most powerful fundraising event in April that unifies thousands of participants statewide in support of the mission and projects of the Autism Society. Most of these events also provide information for participants to learn about services offered locally. Each year, Camp ASCCA has the privilege of being invited to several of these events. On April 18, my assistant Shana Thompson and I, represented camp at the Walk for Autism in Athens.
