Over the weekend, Camp ASCCA welcomed a new group of campers and families for our annual Rookie Weekend. This special event is all about giving first-time campers a chance to experience camp, meet our staff, and begin feeling at home in the ASCCA community. Year after year, this tradition continues to grow, and 2026 was no exception.
We kicked things off on Friday evening as families arrived at Camp. Our summer staff was ready to greet everyone, lead tours, and answer questions along the way. It didn’t take long for new friendships to start forming. After getting settled, everyone gathered in the Dining Hall for dinner, followed by a high-energy dance. The dance floor stayed full, and our staff helped create a fun and welcoming space where campers could relax, laugh, and just be themselves.

Saturday started with one of our favorite traditions, morning flag raising. Campers joined staff to help lead the Pledge of Allegiance, share a joke, offer some words of wisdom, and bless the meal. It was the perfect way to start a full day of activities.
From there, campers and families jumped right into free-choice activities. The morning was packed with options like the zipline, fishing, boat rides, canoeing, slingshots, and more time to explore camp. After lunch and a little rest, the afternoon brought even more to enjoy. Many campers headed for the water to cool off at the pool, tubing, and waterslide, while others spent time at archery, arts and crafts, or grabbing shaved ice at the OutPost.

Saturday evening wrapped up with one of the most fun moments of the weekend, our talent show at the OutPost. Campers took the stage to share their talents, and the crowd showed up with plenty of cheers and encouragement. Staff joined in too, adding even more laughter to an already memorable night.
Before we knew it, Sunday morning had arrived. Campers spent their final hours at the BcK4T playing games, relaxing with friends, and enjoying a movie. While campers wrapped up their weekend, parents had the opportunity to connect with Camp Director Matt Rickman and Program Director Amber Cotney during a Q&A session.
Rookie Weekend was a memorable experience for everyone involved. It’s always a privilege to welcome new families to Camp ASCCA and share what makes this place so special. For many, this weekend is just the beginning of their camp story, and we can’t wait to see what comes next!
