Diving Into the Demo Farm

Something super cool that Camp ASCCA offers for its campers is the Demo Farm! This is a place where campers get one on one interactions with different types of animals and learn their behaviors. They get to feed and pet them while experiencing the joy of their presence.

To start, we have two goats at our farm named Hickory and Sadie. The campers get to feed the goats and pet them once they are done. While the goats can be stubborn, they love food and attention from people. One goat can even jump up on a table and walk around it like it is just an old ground! The campers love to see the goats and play with them!

Next, we have a cow named Ashley. While Ashley gets super spooked by people, she eventually warms up to them and lets them pet her. She has a hump on her back because she is an American Brahman cow. When Ashley gets scared she liked to kick but thankfully this does not happen often because our farm program staff know how to handle her! Having a cow for the campers to interact with is super fun for them and something memorable for sure!

We also have chickens and chicks at our Demo Farm! There is an adult chicken and a baby chicken which is cool for so many reasons. The campers get to pet both of them and see the difference between them. Since we have a baby chicken, the campers get the opportunity to put it on their heads and this is always a hit with them! Last Friday we had some chicks that hatched so this is also a unique experience the campers get to do! They can hold them or pet them so they can get an up close and personal experience with the chicks!

The animals at our Demo Farm can vary every year but no matter what is always something fun for the campers! Learning and interacting with farm animals is something they continue to look forward to every year and we are happy to provide them with this experience!
