Friends of ASCCA: Chad Shares How ASCCA Staff Are Preparing for Summer 2025

Hey counselors and friends!

The program staff is already here and getting things ready for the summer. The farm staff is up early to feed the animals at the Demo Farm, while our Outdoor Education Director, Chris, has been reviewing safety procedures at the archery and riflery stations. They’re also making sure the people mover is ready to go for the day.

Adventure Director Tre has been showing the adventure staff how to maintain the zipline, zip tower, LPR Zipline, and the trampoline—emphasizing the importance of camper and staff safety by always wearing a harness and helmet.

Aquatics Director John is training the aquatics staff on the importance of wearing a life vest during boat rides, canoeing, and tubing. If a camper doesn’t pass their swim test, they’ll need to wear a vest at the pool as well. The aquatics team will also be running the splash pad throughout the week.

The program staff are also helping with Camp Seale Harris, which takes place at Camp ASCCA before our regular sessions begin.

Counselors will be arriving soon! Each will be assigned to a cabin for 7–8 weeks. They’ll learn how to perform two-person transfers from bed to wheelchair, follow a daily schedule, keep phones away during camper time, sing camp songs, stay on sidewalks, and more. Each morning, counselors will sweep the floor and place dirty towels in the laundry cart. Amber and Matt will lead a discussion on what a disability is and how we support each camper.

Before campers arrive, each counselor will be assigned 2–3 campers for the week. They’ll need to know their campers’ dietary needs, allergies, behaviors, and medications.

Counselor-In-Training (CIT) participants will arrive Sunday. They’ll meet with Matt for cabin and camper assignments and will stay with a counselor—just like a camper would.

Important Reminder:
All medical forms must be completed and uploaded to the CampBrain registration system. You cannot be checked in without them. Entering medication information accurately is very important for camper safety. Inaccurate forms will cause delays at check-in.

I can’t wait to take part in all the activities! I’ll be attending Session 3, and my ASCCA Concert Series performer is Carver Commodore! I’m looking forward to the fireworks for the 4th of July!

Which counselors will I see? Let’s find out when I get there!
