As we welcome Session 5 campers to ASCCA, reflection has begun. We have been thinking about the magnitude of trust that parents and guardians place in us. They expect us to feed, clothe and take care of their children and relatives, but the trust they place in us runs deeper than that. They trust that we will love each camper as if they are our own; that we will cherish our time with them as if they were still at home.
At ASCCA, our campers and staff become part of one big Camp family. We take care of each other. We look after each other. Most importantly, we love each other. This is a strong, passionately authentic love that is not reliant on behavior or ability. We do not take the trust families place in us lightly. Our staff is full of gratitude for parents and guardians who give us the chance to be apart of their world.
Their world often revolves around these campers that we see for only a week or two out of the year. What a blessing this opportunity is. They aren’t simply letting us into their huge world, but rather sending their worlds with us. Some might see ASCCA as a summer camp, but we see it as a little piece of paradise. A paradise where families can trust us with their worlds. A paradise where we are all able, some abilities just might look a little different. That is what makes this place special: the staff, the parents, the guardians and the campers.
