ASCCA offers a unique camp experience. Part of this includes the free choice activity during the afternoon called nature cooking. This class of sorts allows campers to explore the creativity of cooking dishes from scratch.

Yesterday, our Outdoor Education Specialist, Chris Pendergrass, led campers in making the delicious desert. First, they discussed the ingredients that would be needed to make the apple crumble: apples, cinnamon, butter, lemon juice, brown sugar, salt and more. Then they added butter to the cast iron pan, and started cutting up the apples into slices with the help of Chris.
Campers took turns preparing the apples, then adding them to the pan. After this, they sprinkled the different seasonings over the fruit. When that task was completed, they scooped a few spoonfuls of brown sugar to the top, added a dash of salt and mixed it all together.

While it cooked, campers hung out inside with Teri and enjoyed singing songs acapella style. Commander Agent Noah led the group in “That’s The Way.” Kevin decided to keep the time apple themed with a select song that fit this category. They had a great time learning, laughing and spending time with each other.
Nature cooking is always a fun activity, and it was no different yesterday.
