Facing Our Fears One Slide At A Time

One of our most popular free choice activities at Camp is the waterslide. This slide starts at the top of the hill, and rushes campers to the bottom. This activity is so much fun, but for some campers, it can be frightening.

Yesterday, Joshua Roberts decided to go to the waterslide for his free choice activity in the afternoon. When he got there, he was very nervous to actually go down the slide. His counselor, Natalie, as well as the other campers and counselors at the top of the waterslide encouraged him to be brave. They reminded him that he would have a blast once he was actually going down it.

They loaded him up in the tube so that he could go down with someone, and pushed him to the edge of the top of the waterslide. Then they sent him and his slide buddy down, and Joshua immediately started grinning from ear to ear. By the time he reached the bottom, he was smiling brightly wanting to go again.

Moments like this one make Camp so special. Joshua faced his fear of the waterslide and conquered it. Our campers, like this one, encourage us to be brave in the face of challenges. We love seeing campers bravery, and watching them shine so bright.

This was an amazing moment, and I hope to be able to tell you about many more that happen over the summer!
