While National Best Friends Day was on June 8, for Camp ASCCA everyday is best friends day. Everyone from the staff to the other campers are easy to get along with during any activity. Many campers and counselors alike say Camp ASCCA feels like a second home to them. Chances are you will make friends with someone who is like a family member in a way or who shares the same interests as you.
While the exact origin of National Best Friends Day is unknown, it pretty much started during the Great Depression because the United States Congress designated National Best Friends Day in 1935. June 8 was chosen because it is typically a good weather day across the country, making it perfect for friends to gather outdoors.
It became more popular in recent years thanks to social media. National Best Friends Day is a day dedicated to honor close friends during emotional times. There are several ways to celebrate National Best Friends Day nowadays.
Because Best Friends Day is all about connecting with other people, you and a friend could plan a fun outing. Maybe spend a day full of favorite activities you two share. You can also plan an adventure with your friend, like have a mini vacation somewhere you two have never been before or go do a new activity together. Maybe just plan to have a fun movie night marathon at home. Or you and your friend could simply chat on your devices. Thanks to today’s technology we have many more ways to stay close to friends than people ever have before.
At Camp ASCCA you can do all of that while you are in your group during a week at camp. Sometimes at Camp ASCCA they will have a party at the BcK4T or at the pool. Everyday will seem like an adventure for you and your new-found friends with every rotation period because the activity is either new to you or new to your friend.
You can exchange numbers with other campers at any given point in time, but at the end of each day try to have paper and pencil on hand to trade cell numbers and stay connected with them once camp has ended. Keep in mind, though, that some campers may not be comfortable sharing their phone numbers, so ask politely and be okay if they decline.
Whether you share numbers or not, you will have enjoyed a fun time with your new friends and maybe you will see them again and reconnect next summer. Camp ASCCA is like Best Friends Day every day all week long! I can’t wait to make some new best friends at my session in July.
